The Crossfit open 2025 & FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: We Sweat, we eat, we play

It’s that time of year again—the CrossFit Open. Three weeks of grueling workouts designed to test strength, endurance, and willpower. But here at Stay Classy CrossFit, it’s not just about the leaderboard, PRs, or qualifying for anything bigger. No, for us, it’s about one thing: Community AKA Friday Night Lights

the event that turns those three weeks into fun and a memorable 3 weeks!!

What Is the CrossFit Open, and Why Do We Do It?

The CrossFit Open is a worldwide competition that invites athletes of all levels to participate in the same workouts. It’s accessible, with scaled and foundations options, meaning anyone can jump in. Some athletes use it as a stepping stone to bigger competitions, but for the majority, it’s simply a way to push themselves and be a part of something bigger.

Most of us at Stay Classy CrossFit aren’t signing up because we’re chasing a Games spot. We sign up because of the energy, the support, and the unmatched camaraderie that pulses through our gym during Friday Night Lights.

Friday Night Lights: We Sweat, We Eat, We Play

If you haven’t experienced a Friday Night Lights at Stay Classy, you’re missing out on one of the best things our community has to offer. Let me tell you how it goes...(fade to the evening in the gym, exciting music playing)

  • The lights are bright or dim...depending on how we are feelin', the music is loud, and the energy is electric.

  • Athletes of all levels take their turn on the competition floor while the rest of the gym rallies around them.

  • High-fives, cheers, and maybe even a few (happy) tears flow as people hit PRs or simply finish a workout they didn’t think they could.

  • No matter if you’re first or last, RX’d or scaled, you’re a part of something bigger.

It’s a moment where fitness meets friendship. You don’t have to be an elite athlete to be celebrated. At Stay Classy, we celebrate effort. We get super excited when someone gets their first pull-up, pushing through a brutal time cap, or just showing up to cheer fellow classians on, that’s what Friday Night Lights is about.

The Open, for us, is an opportunity to come together.

Some people might be hesitant to sign up or to even come to Friday Night Lights, thinking, “I’m not fit enough,” or “I’m not competitive.” But check this: none of that matters!! You don’t do Friday Night Lights for the score—you do it for the experience. And the best part is you don't actually have to do the workout to join us.

Every year, we see athletes surprise themselves. Maybe it’s hitting a weight they never thought possible, completing a workout they were sure would break them, or simply feeling the rush of having their entire community cheering them on. That’s the amazingness of this event.

The Shared Suffering That Brings Us Together

Let’s not sugarcoat it—The Open workouts are tough. They’re meant to push you past your comfort zone. But there’s something special about knowing everyone else is going through it with you. The shared suffering, the gasping for breath, the shaking legs—it’s what bonds us. It’s what makes Friday Night Lights more than just another workout.

When you’re deep in a workout, questioning why you signed up for this madness, you’ll hear your name being shouted from across the gym. You’ll see a coach or fellow athlete standing next to you, willing you to keep going. And somehow, you will!

Don’t Miss It!

If you’ve been on the fence about signing up for the Open or showing up for Friday Night Lights, let this be your nudge. You don’t have to be the fittest in the room. You don’t have to lift the heaviest barbell. You just have to show up and be a part of the experience.

Because at the end of the day, when the workouts are done and the sweat has dried, what you’ll remember most isn’t the reps or the weights—it’s the people and the vibe.

It’s the moment you realized you belong here.

And trust me, you don’t want to miss it.

See you under the lights.
