At Stay Classy CrossFit, we do things a little differently. Sure, we’re all about sweat and gains, but what really sets us apart, is our deep-rooted connection with the military community. For many service members, Stay Classy isn’t just a gym—it’s a second home, a place where camaraderie thrives and where we tackle challenges together, both in and out of the gym. Whether you’re here for a short deployment or staying long-term in sunny San Diego, we want you to feel like you’re part of something bigger.
And now, as we head into this year’s CHAD 1000X event, we’re once again standing shoulder-to-shoulder to support an issue close to our hearts: veteran mental health.
Honoring Chad Wilkinson with CHAD 1000X
This November 11th, we’re coming together for the CHAD 1000X hero workout. It’s more than just another grueling CrossFit WOD—it’s a workout with purpose. Named in honor of Navy SEAL Chad Wilkinson, who tragically lost his battle with PTSD in 2018, this event raises awareness for veteran suicide prevention and supports crucial veteran mental health initiatives through The Step Up Foundation. It’s a powerful way for us to show that fitness isn’t just about physical strength but mental resilience, too.
CHAD 1000X workout is simple in structure but tough in execution: 1,000 box step-ups. You can do it solo, team up with a partner, or rally the whole squad—whatever works for you. Participants can choose from three levels:
1. Slick (Beginner): No rucksack required; set your own step height.
2. Standard (Intermediate): 30#/20# rucksack with step height of your choice.
3. Expert: 45# rucksack with a 20” box.
It’s a killer workout, but it’s not about showing off or going for PRs. The goal is to push yourself and honor those who have given so much. As Sara Wilkinson, Chad’s widow, has said, there’s no shame in starting at the beginner level. It’s about being part of something bigger—raising awareness and funds to help veterans.
More Than a Workout: Supporting Veteran Mental Health
Veteran mental health is a critical issue, with thousands of veterans struggling with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and other invisible wounds of war. The funds raised during CHAD 1000X go directly to The Step Up Foundation, supporting mental health initiatives for veterans across the country. It’s a powerful reminder that while we can’t change the past, we can help shape a better future for those who’ve served.
Stay Classy CrossFit is proud to be part of this mission. Over the years, we’ve hosted multiple events like Murph and 31 Heroes to honor our military members. So, of course CHAD 1000X holds a special place in our hearts. It’s a day where we come together as a community to not only sweat but to reflect and remember. And the best part? You don’t have to be a hardcore CrossFitter to join. We welcome everyone—whether you’re stepping up with a rucksack or just showing up to cheer on friends, your presence matters.
We’re not just a gym. We’re a family, and we proudly stand with our military community every step of the way.
Join us on November 11th.
