We're sure you've seen this gem of a human around the gym giving hugs and high fives as well as lifting all the weights and flying through the air (gymnastics pro). But have you seen her coach yet? If not, check out one of her weekly classes Thursday at 3pm and 4pm. Get to know her better and check out her story below 😊
Where are you from/hometown?
Good Ol’ Bridgewater, New Jersey!
Tell us about your fitness journey when/why did it start and how did it lead you to CrossFit?
I don't think there is any other reason to why I started this amazing fitness journey other than BECAUSE IT'S SO CHALLENGING AND FUN! I played soccer for about 14 years as a goalie and forward, it goes back as far as I can remember. At some point in my younger years I was on the swim team and my go to strokes were Butterfly and Freestyle. In High School, I joined the track and field team and competed in Javelin, shot put, Pole vault, 100/200m sprint and relays. I started doing more bodybuilding, left for the Navy and eventually changed over to Powerlifting. Once I started to feel like I wasn't being challenged. insert Crossfit . A very rough trial run in Greece the year was 2019 after watching the 2019 CF Games. I moved to Guam and thought let's deep dive in and try Crossfit for real. Covid really messed with that plan. I found Unified Fit and I grew so much as a person and as an athlete, it really punched me in the gut though because I thought I was fit, fast and strong so I was hooked and the rest is history.
What’s been your biggest challenge through your fitness/CrossFit journey that you’ve faced and overcome (e.g. scheduling, meal plan/prep, injury, motivation, etc.)
My biggest challenge through it all has been injuries. I have an extensive history and a present list that has helped mold me into a better athlete/person but also has stopped me from a lot of things (clearly not stopped me enough). Overcoming some of these has been long and painful, but I put in the work to try and resolve it as much as I can. I'm one open book, if you ask me.
How do you motivate/inspire athletes to keep pushing in the middle of a workout?
I love cheering on and hyping up athletes, hoping that my few words are heard when the focus sets in or prior to a lift yelling a “LFG” or “LIGHT WEIGHT BABY”. Maybe a little “just do it” (not sponsored by Nike).
How did you hear about and/or what made you start at Stay Classy CrossFit?
Coming to SD I needed a new home gym, I thought about where I wanted to make a home base and there were SO MANY options. I was doing my little internet search and saw Stay Classy CF, it was during the 2022 CF Open season and I needed a judge for the last workout and BBOOOOOOYYYYYYYYY I was welcomed. I have never looked back since and I am so grateful.
How long have you been coaching at SCCF?
Well you could say today is my first official day :)
What’s your go to place for healthy food in San Diego? And where’s your go to spot for your favorite cheat food in San Diego? Top food/beverage spot?
I love me some Korean BBQ or just an authentic BBQ spot. I always try to change it up when it comes to restaurants because I like to compare and see who is better. I will always, always, partake in julian pie with ice cream, ciders/beers and apple wine, catch me in Julian more than I should be :)
What did you have for (go to) breakfast?
You know, normally I only go for 3 eggs and a protein chocolate chip pancake but Leo really got me and probably a lot of others on this MAS HUEVOS so I am eating wayyyy more than 3 eggs.
What are your credentials/specialties (e.g. CFL1, nutrition coach, barbell coach, etc.)
CFL1
Do you have a Spotify playlist? What’s the link? Or go to song/genre/artist for a workout/class?
It will always be Fitradio and it’s amazing DJ mixes, I don't have a specific one but if I can't choose, Country mix baby!
Favorite CrossFit movement?
I can't just have one favorite movement… anything handstands, Clean and Jerk and Bar Muscle Ups.
How do you apply your fitness/Crossfit skills outside the gym?
Very carefully, just kidding. Having a Farm, I need to be able to lift heavy feed bags, chase chickens and pigs to corral them back in the coops, be on my feet and build so it is critical I have the fundamentals and strength to do so. I love going for hikes and walks with my pup Kilo and she has energy! I love all summer activities, but the most important…during the spookiest of seasons I need to be able to lift all the biggest pumpkins into the wheelbarrow and build a haunted house in my yard and in the winter, snowboarding. I love anything outdoors and helping out my friends so I need to be strong and be able to move.
Why/how do you still Stay Classy?
Why/how do I still Stay Classy? By just doing it, it's in my blood but not in my wardrobe.
